- Lifestyle Medicine, as it focuses on making changes to behavior and habits to both prevent and treat chronic disease. Community Medicine, since this involves understanding the health problems facing a community and making changes to improve the greater community’s overall health. Both of these interest me greatly, as I aim to empower my patients by providing the education and resources they need in order to take an active part in their medical care.
What inspired you to pursue a career in family medicine?
-
During my medical school training, I was able to see firsthand how a family medicine physician can transform an individual’s healthcare experience by coordinating their care between providers, working with the patient to create plans together, and encouraging patients to take control of their health. This experience has inspired me to become a broad scope family medicine physician, as this will allow me to perform these roles while also forging long term relationships with my patients and the community at large.
Why did you choose the Community Based Family Medicine Residency program?
- I chose the Community-Based Family Medicine Residency program because I feel the structure of the program will help ensure that I can provide my patients with high quality care no matter their situation. This is because the program places an emphasis on being familiar with and then utilizing community resources, as well as ensuring that there is continuity of care. The program’s emphasis on these areas, combined with the highly motivated and community-oriented residents and faculty, are how I knew the program was a great fit for me.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?
- In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and our two cats. My hobbies include cooking, playing video games, weightlifting, and skeet shooting.
