Kate Heller, DO
What is your hometown?
- Duncansville, Pennsylvania
Where did you attend medical school?
- West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
What other educational credentials do you have?
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and minor in Bioethics
What are your particular clinical interests and why?
- My specific clinical interests include preventative care, lifestyle medicine, rural medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and community health. I enjoy helping patients define what health means to them and making sustainable individual changes to improve someone’s health over time.
What inspired you to pursue a career in family medicine?
- I was inspired to pursue family medicine because it allows me to build lasting relationships while caring for the whole person. I highly value the continuity of family medicine, where I can form long-term partnerships with patients to prevent disease, promote wellness, and support them through every stage of life.
Why did you choose the Community Based Family Medicine Residency program?
- TIGMER combines everything I was looking for in a residency program: excellent community-based family medicine training, Osteopathic Recognition, and opportunities to grow in lifestyle medicine. I was also drawn to the opportunity to care for patients at an FQHC and to the program’s affiliation with UIW, which reflects its commitment to education and serving the community. I am very excited to have the opportunity to care for the people of San Antonio.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?
- My hobbies outside of medicine include sewing, scrapbooking, cooking, baking, hiking, biking, yoga, and listening to bluegrass music!
