Dr. Erica Munoz DO

What is your hometown?

  • San Antonio, T.X.

Where did you attend medical school?

  • University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine.

What other educational credentials do you have?

  • Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies.

What are your particular clinical interests and why?

  • I am interested in preventive and lifestyle medicine, mental health, and osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM). I believe that prevention is the foundation of good health, and I’m passionate about helping patients make sustainable lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of chronic disease. Mental health is another area I care deeply about, as it plays a critical role in overall well-being. I have also witnessed how effective OMM can be in treating musculoskeletal pain and improving mobility, and I believe it is a valuable tool in providing comprehensive, patient-centered primary care.

What inspired you to pursue a career in family medicine?

  • I was drawn to family medicine because of its broad scope and the opportunity to provide comprehensive care across every age and stage! I love that family physicians can build lasting relationships with patients and their families, serving as trusted partners in their health journey.

Why did you choose the Community Based Family Medicine Residency program?

  • One of the reasons I chose TIGMER CBFM is because of its strong commitment to serving San Antonio’s underserved communities. Before medical school, my work involved serving under-resourced communities, and I want to continue that work. I also really love the positive and supportive working and learning environment and the opportunity to participate in the OMT track.

Please provide details of any previous Poster Presentations you have done in the past:

  • Exploring Health Literacy: Contrasting Reading Levels with Healthcare Required Informed Consent Forms. Presented at the Family Medicine Education Consortium conference in Providence, RI (October 2023) and the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association conference in Dallas, TX (February 2024).

What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?

  • I love to read (mostly fiction). I also love cooking, weightlifting, dancing, and spending time with my family and friends.
