Dr. Kaleigh Gallego DO
What is your hometown?
- Bryan, TX.
Where did you attend medical school?
- Sam Houston State University – College of Osteopathic Medicine.
What other educational credentials do you have?
- B.S. in Biology
What are your particular clinical interests and why?
- My clinical interests lie in nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and musculoskeletal complaints. As a former athlete, I developed a passion for physical activity and, through my studies, recognized how important having a strong foundation of health affects clinical outcomes.
What inspired you to pursue a career in family medicine?
- I have many family members who are uninsured or living in geographically and medically isolated areas. I have seen firsthand how lack of access to medicine, especially primary care, can create barriers to health. I pursued family medicine in order to become a part of the solution and help bridge those gaps in medicine.
Why did you choose the Community Based Family Medicine Residency program?
- I opted for a community based program because I wanted my residency experience to have a “boots on the ground” feel to it. Due to my background, I wanted to work within a medically underserved area with a patient population that needed more physicians.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?
- Outside of medicine I love to stay active by going to the gym or attending workout classes! I love to hike and have visited many national parks around the country. I also love indoor activities such as reading and embroidery.
