Where did you attend medical school?
- William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
What other educational credentials do you have?
- Bachelors of Science and Art in Human Development and Family Science.
What are your particular clinical interests and why?
- I enjoy learning about a variety of medical conditions and approaches to healthcare. This broad perspective drew me to family medicine, where I can explore various aspects of patient care from pediatrics to geriatrics, including preventative medicine and osteopathic principles. Family medicine aligns with my holistic view of healthcare, allowing me to provide comprehensive and preventive care across different age groups and medical needs.
What inspired you to pursue a career in family medicine?
- My inspiration to pursue a career in family medicine stemmed from a deep-rooted passion for providing holistic and comprehensive care to individuals and families. I believe that health is not just the absence of disease but encompasses physical, mental, and social well-being. Family medicine allows me to address these aspects by building lasting relationships with patients, understanding their unique backgrounds, and collaborating with them to achieve optimal health outcomes. The diversity of patients and medical conditions in family medicine keeps me motivated and fulfilled, making it a natural choice for my career path.
Why did you choose the Community Based Family Medicine Residency program?
- I chose the Community-Based Family Medicine Residency program because it truly fits with what I want to achieve in my career. I love the idea of focusing on the whole patient, not just their medical issues, but also their social, environmental, and psychological needs. Working in a community setting excites me because it allows me to build lasting relationships with patients and really make a difference in their lives. I’m particularly drawn to the program’s commitment to diversity and serving underserved populations, which is something I’m passionate about. I want to help reduce healthcare disparities and provide high-quality care to everyone, regardless of their background. Plus, the supportive and collaborative atmosphere of a community-based program is perfect for developing my skills and forming strong connections with mentors and colleagues. This residency is exactly what I need to grow into a compassionate, skilled, and community-focused family physician.
Have undertaken any research in the past?
-
I was a Research Assistant for the Daily Living Project. The project was about the experiences of upcoming and new parents during the transition to parenthood. Within the project, my study focused on the relationship between parenting self-efficacy and relationship satisfaction for first time parents. I teamed up with 2 other students to do a poster presentation on the impact of parenting self-efficacy on depression for first time parents. Parenting self-efficacy is the parents’ belief of how capable they are of taking care of their children. We found that mothers who reported less parenting self-efficacy than fathers also reported higher levels of depression at 6 months. This was an interesting project because while learning how to do research and presentation I was given the opportunity to read upcoming parents’ comments on how they felt during pregnancy and labor and how it was impacting their relationship with each other and others around them.
Do you have any publications?
-
Tumefactive Crohn’s Disease Mimicking Colon Carcinoma in a Young Female: Case Report.
-
From Fibroids to Fasciitis: A Rare Case of Necrotizing Fasciitis Post-Abdominal Hysterectomy. Case Report.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?
- I have a great passion for different type of arts. Art serves as a therapeutic escape and a source of joy. I love to do all kinds of painting from dot art to acrylic landscaping. The way I blend colors and let my imagination tun wild on the canvas is very fulfilling. In addition to painting, I love using my 3D pen to create tangible sculptures and complex designs. During holidays and celebrations, I find delight in applying henna designs on my family and friends. The intricate patterns and cultural significance behind henna make the moments extra special.
